Students pursuing medical courses must have broad knowledge in science, particularly in Medicine. The knowledge must be both theoretical and practical. This is important for their efficiency as medical practitioners. A lot of things should be memorized and kept in mind in this field of study. Understanding the functions and use of different medical equipments are necessary. Medical equipment is used for diagnosing, monitoring or treating a patient’s medical condition. There are actually basic types of equipment. First is the diagnostic equipment which includes medical imaging machines such as ultrasound and MRI machines; second is the therapeutic equipment such as infusion pumps and medical lasers; third is life support equipment such as anesthetic and heart-lung machines; fourth is the medical laboratory equipment which is use for analyzing blood, urine and genes; and the last is diagnostic medical equipment that can also be used at homes to control diabetes mellitus. From those equipments, medical students and practitioners should also know the different instruments use in operations or surgeries. They should know every medical instrument and its corresponding use. The basic ones are retractors, forceps, IVs, scalpels and scissors. Surgical scissors are surgical instruments used for cutting. The two types of scissors which are used surgeries are ring scissors and spring scissors. Ring scissors is the standard one which is used generally. Meanwhile, spring scissors are small scissors which are mostly for eye surgery or microsurgery.
